1) General Information

Composition: Inj Esofast 40 mg contains Esomeprazole Sodium equivalent to 40 mg of esomeprazole, a proton pump inhibitor (PPI).

2) Product Introduction

Inj Esofast 40 mg is used primarily for rapid reduction of gastric acid. It’s beneficial for conditions where immediate acid suppression is required, such as severe cases of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), erosive esophagitis, and peptic ulcers, or to prevent ulcers associated with NSAID use. This injectable form provides a quick response in reducing stomach acidity.

3) Uses

  1. Treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) with or without erosive esophagitis
  2. Management of peptic ulcers and gastric hypersecretory conditions
  3. Prevention of ulcers due to prolonged NSAID use
  4. Short-term treatment of acid reflux where oral administration is not feasible

4) Benefits

  1. Rapid and effective acid suppression for immediate relief in acute conditions
  2. Prevents and treats ulcers, especially in patients on NSAIDs
  3. Helps manage severe acid reflux, reducing symptoms and potential complications
  4. Convenient for patients unable to take oral medication

5) Side Effects

Common side effects may include:

  1. Headache
  2. Nausea or vomiting
  3. Constipation or diarrhea
  4. Injection site reactions (such as redness or swelling)

Rare but serious side effects:

  1. Vitamin B12 deficiency with prolonged use
  2. Increased risk of fractures
  3. Hypomagnesemia (low magnesium levels)

6) Indication

Inj Esofast 40 mg is indicated for short-term treatment of GERD, prevention of NSAID-induced gastric ulcers, and other conditions requiring rapid acid suppression when oral administration is not possible.

7) Contraindication

  1. Known hypersensitivity to esomeprazole or other PPIs
  2. Avoid use in patients with a history of allergic reactions to proton pump inhibitors
  3. Caution in patients with severe liver disease

8) How it Works

Esomeprazole, the active ingredient, inhibits the gastric proton pump in stomach cells, reducing acid production. By blocking the enzyme responsible for acid secretion, it lowers gastric acidity, helping manage symptoms and allowing ulcers and erosions to heal.
